I just finished this book and cried through most of it as my husband and his family lived through much of what is described in this story. But I chose to read it in light of its appropriatness for high school students. I felt like there was too much sex in it for me to recommend this book to most high school students.

for not revealing advertising revenue, or existing
relationships with advertising networks.

What are your personal ideas concerning how this could impact

I remember it as a devastating portrait of life in Afghanistan under the Taliban. I believe this is the book with the public stoning?

When I read the first story in this book I was totally hooked. Unfortunately I didn’t realize it was a story and was bereft at not being able to find out what happened next. I usually completely avoid short stories for this reason. But the writing in this book is so incisive and the author’s analysis of human relationships so insightful that I continued reading, and I’m glad I did. What a wonderful writer Jhumpa Lahiri is. Loved The Namesake as well.
